Understanding cigar sizes
Cigars are described by length and ring gauge, the diameter in 64ths of an inch. A thicker ring gauge smokes cooler and slower, while a slimmer cigar concentrates flavour. For example, our Robusto Maduro has a 50 ring gauge and a smoking time of around 45 minutes; the Churchill Connecticut is a slimmer 48; the Torpedo Habano is 52.
Wrapper and flavour
The wrapper leaf has a large influence on taste. Connecticut wrappers are light and mellow, Habano wrappers are spicier, and Maduro wrappers are dark and sweeter with notes of cocoa and coffee.
Storing cigars in the UAE climate
Cigars keep best at around 65 to 70% humidity and a stable 18 to 21°C. Air-conditioned rooms are dry, so store cigars in a humidor rather than on a shelf, and never leave them in a hot car.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good cigar for a beginner?
A mild, medium-length cigar such as one with a Connecticut wrapper. It's smooth and approachable.
What does ring gauge mean?
The cigar's diameter in 64ths of an inch. A 50 ring gauge is 50/64 of an inch across.
How long does a robusto take to smoke?
Around 45 minutes for our Robusto Maduro, depending on pace.
Do I need a humidor?
If you keep cigars for more than a few days, yes. UAE air-conditioning dries cigars out quickly.
Are cigar gift boxes available?
Yes. See the Casa Ejemplo Discovery Sampler (5) and Gift Box (10).
