What a large ring gauge changes

Thickness changes more than duration. A wider barrel draws more air across a larger burning surface, so the cigar runs cooler and the smoke arrives softer. It also shifts the balance: more filler relative to wrapper means the blend leads rather than the wrapper leaf.

Full strength, and what that asks of you

This is the strongest format in our Honduran line. It wants a full stomach, a slow pace and something substantial to drink. Smoked quickly or on an empty stomach, full-strength tobacco produces exactly the light-headedness people describe.

Time commitment

Well over an hour, often closer to two. A gordo is not a cigar to start when you have somewhere to be — putting a cigar down halfway and relighting it later rarely tastes the same.

Cutting a thick cigar

You need a cutter rated for the gauge. Our double-blade guillotine handles up to 60, which covers this comfortably. A cutter that is too small will not close cleanly and tears the wrapper instead of cutting it.

Storage

Humidor, 65 to 70%. Thick cigars hold moisture slightly longer than slim ones, which makes it easy to assume they are fine when they are not.
