Cigar Cutters
Guillotine and V-cutters that open a cigar cleanly without tearing the wrapper.
The cut decides the draw
Too shallow and the cigar is tight and frustrating. Too deep and the cap unravels and the wrapper follows. The aim is a clean cut just above the cap line — the shoulder where the cap meets the body — in one decisive motion.
Guillotine versus V-cut
- Double-blade guillotine — removes the cap cleanly, works on any ring gauge up to its rating, the versatile everyday choice.
- V-cut — takes a wedge from the cap, concentrating the draw and leaving more of the cap intact. Better on firm-drawing cigars, too open on loose ones.
Ring gauge limits
A cutter rated to 60 covers almost everything including gordos. Forcing a thick cigar into a small cutter is the most common cause of a ruined wrapper.
Technique
Seat the cap, line up above the cap line, and cut fast. Hesitation tears; speed does not.
Maintenance
Keep blades dry, use them only on cigars, and wipe away tobacco oils occasionally. A blunt cutter crushes rather than cuts.
Frequently asked questions
Where exactly should I cut?
Just above the cap line, where the cap meets the body. Cutting below it releases the wrapper.
Guillotine or V-cut?
A guillotine is the versatile choice. A V-cut opens a firm draw more and leaves more cap intact, but can make a loose cigar too open.
What ring gauge can I cut?
Our double-blade handles up to 60, which covers gordos and everything below.
Why did my wrapper unravel?
Usually a cut placed too low, or a slow, hesitant cut. Cut above the cap line in one motion.
How do I maintain a cutter?
Keep it dry, use it only on cigars and wipe the blades occasionally.
