The job they do
A cigar in a jacket pocket gets crushed, and a cracked wrapper cannot be repaired. A case is simply structure: rigid enough that the cigar survives being sat on, sized so it does not rattle around.
Case or tube
- Leather three-finger case — carries three cigars, moulds slightly to their shape, suits an evening out.
- Travel tube — one cigar, sealed, pocketable, and the better option in a bag with other things in it.
What a case is not
It is not a humidor. A sealed tube slows drying, but neither maintains humidity. Cigars in a case are good for a day or two, then start losing condition. Anything longer belongs in a humidor.
Fit
Check the maximum length and ring gauge on the product page. A churchill will not fit a case cut for robustos, and forcing it damages the foot.
Travelling
For a longer trip, a travel humidor with a humidity pack keeps cigars in condition. For a single evening, a tube is enough.
