Cigar Lighters

Butane torch lighters that toast a foot evenly, without the taint of ordinary lighter fuel.

Why not an ordinary lighter

Petrol lighters leave a taste on the first draws, and a soft flame struggles to light a wide foot evenly outdoors. Butane burns clean and a jet flame is hot and directional, which is what you need to toast the foot rather than char one side of it.

How many jets

  • Dual jet — enough for most ring gauges, controlled and less likely to scorch.
  • Triple jet — faster across a wide foot, better for gordos, needs a little more care.

Lighting properly

Hold the flame just below the foot without touching it. Rotate the cigar until the edge glows evenly all round, then draw gently while keeping the flame close. A rushed light produces a lopsided burn that never fully corrects.

Butane quality

Use refined butane. Cheap gas leaves residue that clogs the jets, and a sputtering torch is almost always a fuel problem rather than a fault. Wait a minute after refilling before lighting.

Heat warning

Never leave a butane lighter in a parked car. Pressure rises with temperature, and a leaking lighter is both wasteful and dangerous.

Frequently asked questions

Why use a torch lighter for cigars?

Butane burns clean and the jet flame is hot and directional, so the foot toasts evenly without tainting the first draws.

Dual or triple jet?

Dual is controlled and suits most cigars. Triple is faster on large ring gauges but needs more care to avoid scorching.

How do I avoid burning the wrapper?

Keep the flame just below the foot without touching it, and rotate the cigar as you toast.

Why has my lighter started sputtering?

Usually poor-quality butane leaving residue in the jets. Use refined gas and purge the tank before refilling.

Can I keep it in the car?

No. Heat raises the internal pressure and can cause leaks.
