The format that still works
Vape pens are the oldest refillable format and they persist for a reason: one button, a tank, a familiar shape in the hand. For smokers switching across, the resemblance to a cigarette matters more than any specification.
How they vape
Mouth-to-lung, moderate power, modest vapour. That suits nicotine salt or a 50/50 freebase liquid at a strength that would be harsh in a sub-ohm device. It is the same style of draw as a pod kit, in a longer, thinner body.
Pens versus pod kits
A pen usually holds more liquid and has a longer battery than a pod of similar price. A pod kit is smaller, more pocketable, and its pods are easier to swap than a coil. Neither is better; it is a question of shape and habit.

Keeping one working
Prime new coils, keep the tank topped up, and clean the threads occasionally. Most pen failures are a coil fitted dry or threads clogged with e-liquid.
