Dark Leaf Shisha
Stronger, drier tobacco with denser smoke and deeper flavour, for experienced smokers.
How dark leaf differs
Dark leaf uses a more mature, less washed tobacco. The nicotine is higher, the smoke is denser, and the flavour carries much further into a bowl. It is also drier and less forgiving: overheat it and it turns harsh in a way blonde molasses does not.
Who it is for
Regular smokers who have found blonde leaf too light. If your sessions end with you wanting more, this is the direction. If you smoke occasionally or socially, stay with molasses.
Packing it
An Egyptian clay bowl suits the drier cut better than a phunnel. Pack loosely — dark leaf expands less than molasses but chokes just as easily — and build heat gradually with two coals before considering a third.
Our blends
Berry, Mint, Grape and Cherry, all in 200g packs. Grape and cherry carry the dark base best; the mint is the most approachable if you are trying dark leaf for the first time.
Softening it
Mixing dark leaf with a blonde molasses is common and effective: you keep some of the depth without the full nicotine load.
Frequently asked questions
How much stronger is dark leaf?
Noticeably, in both nicotine and smoke density. Most newer smokers find it too much.
Which bowl works best?
An Egyptian clay bowl. Dark leaf is drier than molasses, so a phunnel is less necessary.
Can I mix it with normal molasses?
Yes, and it is the usual way to soften dark leaf while keeping some of its character.
Why does it go harsh so quickly?
Dark leaf is less tolerant of heat. Start with two coals and add more only once the bowl has settled.
How many bowls from 200g?
Around 10 to 20, depending on bowl size.
