Description

The format that runs most mods

The 18650 has been the standard vaping cell for a decade. At 3000 mAh it gives a working day for most single-battery mods at moderate wattage, and it fits almost every device that takes a removable cell.

Capacity versus current

Two different numbers, and the second matters more. Capacity (mAh) decides how long you vape between charges. The continuous discharge rating (amps) decides whether the cell can safely supply what your wattage demands. Running a low-amp cell hard is how batteries overheat.

The safety rules that are not negotiable

Never carry a bare cell loose in a pocket — contact with keys or coins short-circuits it, and lithium cells fail violently. Inspect the wrap before every insertion; a nick exposing the metal casing must be re-wrapped or the cell retired. Replace any cell that runs hot, dents or loses noticeable runtime.

Charging

An external charger is gentler than charging inside the mod and forces you to handle and inspect each cell. Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface and not unattended overnight.

In dual-battery mods

Always a matched pair: same brand, same age, bought together, charged together, replaced together. Mixing an old cell with a new one puts uneven load on both.

Larger option

The 21700 at 4000 mAh, if your mod accepts it.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a 3000 mAh cell last?

Roughly a working day in a single-battery mod at moderate wattage. Higher wattage drains it faster.

What is more important, capacity or amp rating?

The amp rating, for safety. Capacity only decides runtime; the discharge rating decides whether the cell can supply your wattage safely.

Can I carry a spare in my pocket?

Only in a battery case. Loose cells can short against keys or coins.

When should I replace a battery?

If the wrap is torn, the cell is dented or hot, or runtime has dropped noticeably.

Do I need two?

Only for dual-battery mods, and then always a matched pair.
