Built around one problem
A full-size hookah does not travel. It is tall, glass-based and awkward, and it arrives broken or not at all. This one comes apart, packs flat and survives a boot, a dune trip or a hotel bag.
What you give up
Cooling. At 32cm the smoke has a short journey, so it is warmer and less smooth than a lounge hookah. Nobody who has smoked both will pretend otherwise. What you get is a hookah in a desert camp instead of no hookah at all.
Packing for a trip
Stem and base separated, hose coiled loosely rather than folded, bowl wrapped. Charcoal in a sealed bag — coconut coals absorb moisture and go from lighting in two minutes to refusing for five.
Heat outdoors
Wind changes everything. Coals burn faster and hotter in a breeze, so check the bowl more often than you would indoors and be ready to move a coal early. A windproof ashtray is useful in the same setting.
