Why grape needs mint

Grape alone is heavy. It is sweet and rounded and after half an hour the palate stops registering it. Mint cuts through the sweetness and resets the taste between draws, which is what makes this combination one of the few that genuinely improves over a two-hour session.

Mild, and why that matters

A mild blonde leaf keeps the tobacco character in the background. That makes it approachable for someone new to shisha and it makes a long session comfortable rather than heavy. If you want more body, the Dark Leaf Berry is the step across.

Bowl and packing

Fluffy packing, level with the rim, in a phunnel or silicone bowl. Mint flavours are particularly unforgiving of scorching — the cooling note disappears first and what remains tastes flat.

Heat management

Start with two coals and be conservative. Mild blends need less heat than dark leaf, and a heat management device makes this easier to get right.

Storage

Airtight and cool. Menthol and cooling agents are volatile and fade faster than fruit flavours once a pack is opened.
