Description
The problem four flames solve
A 52 or 60 ring gauge cigar has a foot wider than a single jet can heat evenly. Toasting it one section at a time means the first part is already burning while the last is still cold, and an unevenly lit cigar burns crooked for its entire length. Four flames cover the whole foot at once.
Lighting a cigar properly
Hold the foot just above the flames, not in them, and rotate it until the edge glows evenly. Then draw gently while continuing to rotate. The aim is to toast, not to scorch — direct flame contact burns the wrapper and gives a harsh first inch.
Fuel
Triple-refined butane only. Four jets draw more gas than one, so expect to refill more often, and expect cheap fuel to clog it four times as fast.
Refilling
Bleed, fill slowly, wait five minutes. If the flame sputters or burns yellow, there is air in the tank — bleed it fully and refill.
Heat and storage
Keep it out of parked cars. High ambient temperature raises tank pressure, and a butane lighter is not built for a dashboard in August.
Where it fits
Overkill for cigarillos and pipes, where the Single Jet is more controllable. Exactly right for Robustos, Toros and Churchills.
Frequently asked questions
Why four flames?
A wide cigar foot cannot be heated evenly by one jet, and an unevenly lit cigar burns crooked for its whole length.
How do I light a cigar with it?
Hold the foot above the flames, not in them, rotating until the edge glows evenly. Then draw gently while still rotating.
Does it use more fuel?
Yes, four jets consume more butane than one. Refill more often and use triple-refined fuel.
Why is the flame yellow or sputtering?
Air in the tank. Bleed it fully and refill slowly.
Is it good for pipes?
The Single Jet is more controllable for a pipe bowl. This is built for wide cigars.
