Description
Why after every bowl
Moisture and tar collect in the stem and mortise during a smoke. Left there they sour, and a soured stem makes the next bowl of even the best tobacco taste unpleasant. One cleaner, straight through, while the pipe is still warm, prevents all of it.
The mid-bowl use
If a pipe starts gurgling, a cleaner through the stem stops it immediately. Drawing harder makes it worse, overheats the tobacco and can scorch the bowl. This is the fix, and it takes ten seconds.
Bent pipes need them more
Condensation collects at the bottom of a bend, so a bent apple or similar shape needs cleaning after every bowl without exception. A straight billiard is more forgiving but no less improved by it.
Why a hundred
Because you use one or two per bowl. A pack of ten is an afternoon. At this rate a hundred is a few months of regular smoking, which is the right ordering quantity.
Beyond pipes
Useful for medwakh stems if the bore allows, and for cleaning tight spaces on other equipment — though the Medwakh Cleaning Set is sized properly for that narrower bore.
Storage
Dry. A damp cleaner does not absorb, which is its only job.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I use one?
After every bowl, while the pipe is still warm, and mid-bowl if it starts gurgling.
Why does a stem go sour?
Moisture and tar left in it after a smoke. One cleaner straight through prevents it.
How many are in the pack?
A hundred, which is a few months of regular smoking at one or two per bowl.
Do bent pipes need more cleaning?
Yes. Condensation collects in the bend, so clean a bent pipe after every bowl.
Can I use them on a medwakh?
Sometimes, depending on the bore. The Medwakh Cleaning Set is sized properly for that.
