Description
Why rosewood
Density. A close-grained hardwood absorbs less, stays cooler in the hand and resists cracking better than a soft wood — which matters in a pipe where a lit ember sits millimetres from your fingers. It also takes a finish well, which is why rosewood medwakh sit at the top of the range.
How it differs from the carved model
Material and finish rather than function. Both hold the same pinch of dokha and smoke the same way. This is the one you buy to keep or to give, and the grain pattern is unique to each piece.
Smoking it
A small pinch of dokha, loosely filled, lit and drawn two or three times. Short by design. Dokha is much stronger than cigarette tobacco and a full bowl on a first attempt will be uncomfortable.
Caring for wood
Keep it dry and out of direct sun. Wipe the exterior rather than washing it, and never soak a wooden medwakh — water swells the grain and can open a crack. Clear the stem regularly with a cleaning set sized for the bore.
In UAE conditions
Air conditioning is dry and sunlight is intense. Store it in a pouch or case rather than on a windowsill, and expect the finish to last far longer for it.
What you need with it
Dokha, a pouch and the Medwakh Cleaning Set.
Frequently asked questions
Why rosewood?
It is dense and close-grained, so it stays cooler, absorbs less and resists cracking better than soft woods.
Does it smoke differently from the carved medwakh?
No. Same pinch, same short session. The difference is material and finish.
Can I wash it?
No. Wipe the exterior and never soak it — water swells the grain and can crack it.
How should I store it?
Dry, out of direct sunlight, ideally in a pouch or case.
Does the grain vary?
Yes, every piece is different.
