Flat versus cube
The shape matters more than people expect. Flats sit stably inside a heat management device and transfer heat evenly across the base, where cubes tend to rock and create hot spots. If you use a Kaloud-style device, flats are the better fit.
Burn and ash
Same natural coconut shell as the cubes: no accelerant, no chemical smell, minimal ash. A flat runs slightly hotter and slightly shorter than a cube of equivalent weight because more surface is exposed.
Quantity
A kilo is roughly 60 to 70 flats depending on size, which is a couple of months for a weekly smoker. It is the cheapest way to buy charcoal in our range.
Lighting
Coil burner or stove, eight to ten minutes, every face glowing. Tap the ash off before placing them. Rotate them once mid-session to keep the heat even.
Safety
Ventilation, tongs, heatproof surface. Never leave lit coals unattended.
