Description

Why coconut

Quick-light coals are coated in an accelerant, and you taste it for the first ten minutes of every bowl. Coconut shell charcoal has nothing added: it takes longer to light, then burns hotter, longer and cleaner, with far less ash.

The 500g box

This is the smaller box, right for occasional smokers or as a top-up. If you smoke weekly or host often, the 1kg flat charcoal is better value per coal.

Lighting them properly

Use an electric coil burner or a gas stove, not a lighter. Give each cube eight to ten minutes until every face glows orange, then tap the ash off with tongs before it goes near your bowl. Half-lit coals are the single most common cause of a harsh, headachy session.

How many you need

Two to three cubes for most bowls. With a heat management device, two is usually enough; with foil, three.

Safety

Burn charcoal only in a ventilated space, handle it with tongs and rest it on a heatproof surface. Never light coals indoors without airflow.

Frequently asked questions

How long does one cube burn?

Around 45 to 60 minutes, which covers a normal bowl.

Can I light them with a lighter?

No. They need a coil burner or a stove. A lighter will not get them going evenly.

How many cubes per bowl?

Two to three. Two is usually enough with a heat management device.

Why does my shisha taste harsh with new coals?

Almost always because they were not fully lit. Wait until every side glows before using them.

Should I buy the 500g or the 1kg?

500g suits occasional use. If you smoke weekly, the 1kg flat charcoal costs less per coal.
